About Lyall Bay After School Care

Lyall Bay After School Care (LBASC) is a not for profit, supervised after school child care programme that is organised by parents, to provide safe, quality after school care for all of our children.  We recognise and support the needs and rights of children, parents/whānau and child care workers to ensure that care encompasses and reflects the different cultural values of the families which use it.  LBASC is Out of School Care and Recreation (OSCAR) registered. OSCAR child care subsidies are available through Work and Income for those families that meet the criteria.

We operate from the main hall in  Lyall Bay School, 2 Freyberg Street, Lyall Bay, Wellington, between 3pm-6pm.  We welcome children attending Lyall Bay School or siblings of these children who are currently attending Evans Bay Intermediate, and previously attended Lyall Bay School.   LBASC is not operated by Lyall Bay School - we use the hall and playgrounds for our after school care use.

We were formed in 1997 by parents, and now operate as the Lyall Bay After School Care Programme Parent Cooperative (LBASCPPC).  LBASCPPC is a parent cooperative, where all users and workers are automatically members. Management of the LBASCPPC is the responsibility of all members, and currently the parent cooperative has delegated management responsibility to a management committee comprising volunteer parents. Funds received from child care fees go towards paying wages for adult assistants, food and activities for the children and rental of the hall from Lyall Bay School.
